A project for a new indoor sports facility and an exercise in combining resources of land, infrastructure and talents. The concept of this project was drawn from the previously completed education facilities upgrades, executed by the same design team.
The repeated elements of non-rectilinear forms and circular to curved walls created a coexistence that would reflect the excitement and exuberance experienced within the space and its function.
The challenge was a need to maximise use and cost efficiency across two government agencies, the local government and the educational directorate. Between these bodies, the project needed to provide new facilities on an existing educational campus while also creating maximum benefit for the wider local community on municipal land.
The outcome of this indoor sports hall and associated facilities allowed for a seamless connection and common use to the annexed outdoor sports fields and courts. The project executed for a cost competitive sum in today’s terms of circa $3.5 million.
